Obituary: Kathleen Rosa Brock

Kathleen Rosa Brock went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2013, surrounded by her family. Memorial Services will be held on June 14 at 11 a.m. at the Performing Arts Center (old Truckee Rec. Center) at 10046 Church Street, Truckee, CA. A luncheon will immediately follow.

Kathleen was born in Compton, CA on April 19, 1941. She graduated from William S. Hart Union High School in Newhall, CA. She also attended college in Southern California.

She fell in love and married Richard Buron Brock on July 4, 1963 in Las Vegas, NV. They both worked as realtors for DART Industries (Tahoe Donner) which brought them to a small, beautiful mountain town known as Truckee, where they moved their family in 1973.

Kathleen (AKA: KR, Kathy, Katie the Lady) owned and operated Brock’s Barn, the most popular bar/restaurant/pool hall in Truckee in the late 1970’s. She then became a blackjack dealer at Boomtown where she worked for over 10 years. In the early 1990’s she moved to Bakersfield, CA to pursue a career in driving big rig dump trucks! She moved back to Truckee in 2001 to be near her family, where she ironically went back to work at Boomtown in the VIP Services Department. She moved to Sparks, NV in 2003 to a cute little home where the family would gather for holidays, birthdays, and barbecues, which were her most cherished moments.

Kathleen was a devoted follower of The Lord, leading Bible study groups and speaking at women’s conferences. She was a beautiful example of a Christian woman to her children, grandchildren, and all who were lucky enough to have known her. She always had a Bible verse to share with everyone! She was known as “the nicest lady” by all who met her. She was generous and loved giving gifts, even at her own birthday parties!! She was a hard working woman and worked up to the very end of her life.

Her passions in life were horses, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s functions, visiting with friends and writing her short stories.

She is survived by her children Rod Brock, Robin Brock-Coon, Chad Brock, Holly Furman, grandchildren Matthew Coon, Bo Coon, Chase McLane, Justin Brock, Danielle Brock, Colton Brock, Mallory McLane, Korinna Brock, Kassie Furman, Austin Brock, Ellissa Rachel, and great-grandchildren Jaden Brock, Ava McLane, and Jake Brock.
