OBITUARY: Linda Briggs Carrigan
Linda Briggs Carrigan – world traveler, gardener, crafter, bridge player, dear friend, beautiful woman, awesome mother, and grandmother extraordinaire – passed away unexpectedly in her home on July 4, 2014.
Olive Linda Carrigan was born on June 27, 1938 in Portland, Oregon. As a child, Linda lived in Portland, Vallejo, Fresno, and Red Bluff, where she attended High School. In 1958, Linda married Roger C. Briggs, U. S. Navy Pilot, and together started a family, having children Ann, Greg and Kelly. With Roger’s deployments sending him worldwide, Linda kept her family together, moving her kids on her own to be near Roger’s latest home port. The family lived in Florida (3x), Virginia (2x), California (2x), Texas, and Ford Island, Hawaii; and internationally, near naval bases in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Sasebo, Japan; Athens, Greece; Naples, Italy; and Okinawa, Japan. During these travels, Linda managed her children with grace and humor through travel mishaps, typhoons, hurricanes, and even emergency evacuations (Bay of Pigs, Greek government overthrow in 1974).
Linda located to Lake Tahoe in 1998, living in Ward Valley for several years before moving to Tahoe Donner, where she continued gardening, sewing and traveling the world, with trips to the Panama Canal, Ireland and China. While in Tahoe, Linda’s passion for Bridge was reignited and she met many great people through this beautiful game. In 2005, Linda relocated to Weed, California, where she built her own home.
Above all, Linda loved her grandchildren, with camping, fishing, crafting and birthday parties galore. Linda cheered her grandsons at youth soccer, tennis, and swim meets in the Bay Area. For the past decade, Linda was a dedicated North Tahoe Lakers fan, supporting granddaughters Taylor and Jordan Briggs at volleyball, basketball, and track, plus Linda’s favorite, enjoying the North Tahoe Jazz Band.
Linda is survived by her brother, Bill Carrigan of Brookings, Oregon; daughter Ann Miller, son-in-law Steve, and grandchildren Austin, Davis and Cameron, of Danville, California; son Greg Scott Briggs, daughter-in-law Sue, and grandchildren Taylor and Jordan of Tahoe City, California; daughter Kelly Iannello, son-in-law Rick, and grandchildren Eric, Shannon, Cassidy and Courtney. Linda was preceded in death by her beloved four-legged companion “Oliver” nine months earlier.
A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held at the Mt. Shasta Resort in Mt. Shasta, California on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 11:00 to 2:00. For more information, call Greg 530-581-5870.
