Obituary: Richard Charles Miller

Passed away peacefully on Feb. 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He led an outstanding life as son, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by daughter Maya Silene Cutler, brother Randy Miller, niece Jill Miller, nephew Elijah Miller, great nephew Jasper Miller and niece Tammy Miller.
Richard was born on July 10, 1945 in San Francisco, Calif., where he later studied horticulture at the University of San Francisco. He loved the West and lived in many beautiful places throughout his life: Lake Tahoe, Calif., San Juan Ridge, Calif., Hamilton, Mont., Florence, Ore., and Stanley, Idaho.
Richard loved the Sierra Nevada and truly enjoyed skiing, back-packing, camping and campfires with family and friends. When not walking in the mountains he could be found riding or skiing the many trails and paths through the forest.
He had an extensive knowledge of native and cultivated plants, and it was a treat to accompany him on walks as he talked about the flora and fauna around him. He had a deep love and respect for nature and all its creatures.
Richard also enjoyed connecting with people, so much that he dedicated most of his life to helping others, especially through the places he worked, such as New Moon Natural Foods in Tahoe City, Calif., where he will be remembered for his ability to inspire and encourage others to live a happy and healthy life.
