Obituary: Roberta Elizabeth Carlson

Roberta Elizabeth Carlson died peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Petaluma Valley Hospital. She was 88 years old. Her husband, Howard Carlson, preceded her in death in 2010.

Roberta was born in San Francisco on September 9, 1925 the daughter of Robert Hoffman & Marie MacDonald. She was a twin to brother Robert Hoffman. Roberta is survived by her 5 children: Barbara Thornton, Julie Carlson-Phelan, Jo Hudson, Patrice Glasscock, Howard Carlson Jr., their spouses & 8 grandchildren.

Roberta was often on the tennis courts and as a teenager this is where she met her future husband, Howard (Howie) Carlson. The tennis courts would become the place where she spent many an hour playing, competing and teaching.

Roberta lived life fully and was a fine artist and a woman of great faith. A common thread throughout her life was her ability to connect with people of varying lifestyles, and at the age 60, she became a deacon in the Episcopal Church. The ripple effect of her ministry continues.

If asked what the most important achievement in life was, she would surely say that it was the love of her family.

Memorial services were held in Petaluma, CA and Roberta’s ashes will be returned to Incline Village, NV to rest next to Howie once again.

Memorial contributions can be made to Petaluma Valley Hospital.
