September 6, 1931 – September 3, 2015
Walter Treichler passed away September 3, 2015 in Grass Valley, California. He was born on September 6, 1931 in Baar, Switzerland to Meta and Ernst Treichler-Hitz. Walter is survived by brothers Ernest (Johanna) Treichler-Tschupp and Werner Treichler of Mission Viejo, California. Sisters Margrit (Ernst) Locher-Treichler of Switzerland and Lisa Hargreaves-Treichler of Victoria, Canada. Other family members include brother Jakob (deceased) and Lydia Treichler-Locher, sister Ruth (deceased) and Martin Hunziker-Treichler and sister Elisabeth (deceased) and Ottmar Merk-Treichler, All of Switzerland. Walter also had numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews throughout Northern America and Switzerland. Walter first came to North America in 1954 via Quebec, Canada. He worked his way through Canada and the United States seeking employment in the dairy industry, timber industry and road construction. He traveled back and forth between Switzerland and the United States, and eventually settled in Donner Lake where he built his first house in 1962. He then built a home in Truckee, California where he began a long and successful career as a building contractor. Walter designed and built many custom homes throughout the Tahoe region. He loved the great outdoors and ultimately moved to Grass Valley where the weather was a bit milder. He retired in 1988 and spent many years hiking the surrounding trails in Gold Country. In recent years his health began to deteriorate and he was fortunate enough to belong to a community of wonderful neighbors and friends who looked after him with the utmost care bringing him to the hospital numerous times. Walter was fiercely independent and he was lucky to be surrounded by neighbors who respected his independence, but would always be there for him. Thank you so much! We would also like to thank the staff at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley. Walter’s frequent trips to the emergency room were met with great patience and kindness. Again, thank you so much! Donations to a charity of your choice may be made in Walters’s name. At Walter’s request, there will be no memorial service. Arrangements are under the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
