Obituary: Berneice A. Kumle

Berneice A . Kumle passed away on Oct. 2, 2009, at the age of 89 at Newcastle, Calif.

She was born in Sacramento to Alfred and Anna Kallen in 1920. She attended school in Sacramento and met and married her husband, Gilbert M. Kumle, in Sacramento in 1939.

They moved to Truckee in 1952 where he was the yard master for the railroad in Truckee and on the City of San Francisco, the train that was snow bound for three days in January 1952 in the Sierra and were involved in caring for the other passengers on the train. He preceded her in death in 1993.

She is survived by her son, Gilbert. M. Kumle Jr. and wife Judy of Sparks, son Michael A. (Mickey) Kumle and wife Lola of Truckee, son Chris K. Kumle and Sherry Wassil of Newcastle.

Four grand children; Kimberly Herman, husband John, and their children Ciera and Hunter; Tracy Kalterbacker, husband Kris, and children Ryane, Reagan and Macie; Kristie Kumle and son Caleb. All were present at a private ceremony held at Rainbow Bridge on Oct. 24.

The family is very grateful to Chris and Sherry for caring for her in the last months of her life so that she could remain at home, also to Auburn Hospice for their help.
