Obituary: Don Pilkinton

We his friends and family mourn the passing and celebrate the full life of our good friend and long-time Truckee local, Don Pilkinton.

Don was born on Jan. 21, 1939, in Fresno, CA, and worked the family farm. Later Don served in the military and was stationed in New Jersey. After serving, Don moved back to California, buying a home in Oakland and raising two daughters of whom he was justifiably proud, Koren and Kelli. He is also survived by his close friend of many years, Jackie Basham.

In his career Don was a professional surveyor who worked for both the Pacific Bell phone company and later for Alameda County.

After retirement, Don pursued his sports passions for motor cycling, skiing, golfing, and scuba diving. It was while diving in Indonesia that Don passed away on October 14, 2010.

His ready laugh and generous spirit will be missed by the many friends and family who loved him and those locals who simply loved golfing, skiing, swimming, diving, or cycling with him.
