Obituary: Dorotha Joan Lindsey Kerr
A memorial celebration for Dorotha Joan Lindsey Kerr will be held on Saturday, August 28th, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3125 North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, California, at 12:30 p.m.
Dorotha died peacefully at home on July 31, 2010, with family at her side. She was 77.
She was born on June 11, 1933 in Flat River, Missouri, the daughter of Lannas and Lena Lindsey.
She lived in Flat River until after her father passed away on her 10th birthday, and moved to Marin County, California. After graduating from Tamalpais High School, she attended St. Josephand#8217;s school of nursing, earning her R.N. in 1953. She married in 1954, and had four children.
Over many decades, Dorotha worked as a registered nurse in the San Francisco Bay Area, and eventually became a hospital administrator, a position she held until her retirement.
Dorotha spent many summers in Tahoe, renting a cabin, and in April 1994, she bought a house there. She continued living in Sausalito for six years, coming up to her and#8220;Tahoe Houseand#8221; whenever her job allowed. Finally, she sold her Sausalito condo and moved to Tahoe for good when she retired.
A lifelong artist, she enjoyed painting people she loved, and all the scenery that surrounded her. She sold many paintings in and around Tahoe, and her painting friends became her second family. She also collected a large quantity of artwork of all kinds that filled her house from top to bottom.
She always was surrounded with pets. and#8220;Bearand#8221; came with her to Tahoe, and and#8220;Buddyand#8221; was with her when she passed. Buddy has been adopted by Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue, a group of caring individuals.
Survivors include her four children, Michael Phenicie, Melvin Phenicie, Anna Marie Moll and Michele Williams. She had five grandchildren, Chris and Aimee Phenicie, Sara Zazoulin, John Moll and Lindsey Williams. She was also survived by her sister, Mary Allen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Don and James Lindsey, and her sister, Iris Gist.
