October 15, 2010
Dutch was born in Marrietta, Ohio, on March 8, 1943. His love for baseball and golf began at age eight, and continued until his passing. He attended the University of Southern California on a baseball scholarship, and also played varsity football as a middle linebacker, including the 1963 Rose Bowl against the Wisconsin Badgers. After college he joined the Army, serving in Vietnam for seventeen months as a 101st Airborne Ranger.
Dutch met and married Criss in 1967, and during their thirty-one years in Livermore, he coached twenty-two years of Livermore Little League baseball. He started his own companies, California Envelope Company and Classic Reproductions, in 1976, two years after his son Brock was born. After twenty-six successful years, he sold the business and retired to Truckee, where they built their home on Tahoe Donner golf course.
He enjoyed playing golf two to three times a week with his friends, baseball on the weekends with San Leandro Old Timers, and was able to take many trips with his wife Criss; highlights of these trips included hiking in Italy in Utah, skiing in Switzerland, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and seeing the amazing Galapagos Islands.
Dutch was a beloved and devoted husband, selfless and model father, loved by all and will be greatly missed.
