Obituary: Gerald Lee Piland

To all who knew him, he was andamp;#8220;JP.andamp;#8221; He passed away in Stanley, North Dakota, on April 4, 2011.JP was born June 27, 1940, in Yakima, Washington. The youngest of three sons of Gertude and Joseph Piland. He is survived by two brothers, Ron, residing in Medford, Oregon, and Richard, residing in Sacramento, Calif.; his wife Judy; former wives, Jean, Colleen, Hazel; children, Diana, Grant, Mark, Ken, Michelle, and Megan; nine grandchildren; and numerous friends.JP served in the Air Force in the late 1950s; he was stationed in England where he met his first wife. After serving his country he moved to Santa Ana for a short time. Eventually moving to Sacramento where he worked for Animal Control, he always loved dogs and usually had one or two. He then worked in Roseville in the construction trades. Eventually he moved to Tahoe City in the early andamp;#8217;80s worked for Pat Patterson Construction and Tapco in underground construction, improving water quality and building the infrastructure for a changing Tahoe area. He finally started his own business that included new pipes, valves, fittings, underwater diving and backhoe services.We will be celebrating his life at the Tahoe City Golf Course, 251 North Lake Blvd., on Saturday, June 18, at 2 p.m. No flowers are necessary, but feel free to bring something for the potluck and a good story to tell.
