Obituary: Hans and#8216;Hankand#8217; Herman Stueven

April 7, 1933 and#8211; January 3, 2012

He died at home peacefully from cancer. and#8220;Hammerin Hankand#8221; was a builder, building custom homes at Lake Tahoe.

Our dad told us he was a loner. and#8220;I came to be tough that wayand#8221;, he said. He first saw Lake Tahoe while on a family vacation in 1944. He really liked Lake Tahoe since the first moment he set his eyes on it. He said that is where he wanted to live when he grew up. He moved to Lake Tahoe in 1955. The Korean War broke out and after high school he signed up for service. The military wouldnand#8217;t let him in until he was 21. He tried to get in at age 17.

Hank became an ordained minister in the 1970s. He ran the race for the prize of The High Calling, and told us to never let anyone take our crown away.

He is at rest with Jesus now.

Hank is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathrynn Stueven; daughters, Karrie Wade and Shelly Lewis; son Jerry Stueven; grandsons Jesse Lewis and Danny Stueven. Granddaughters Vanessa Henson and Jerrica Stueven. and#8220;Goodbye, Goodbyeand#8221; Hank you will be missed.

There will be a graveside service at Trails End Cemetery in Tahoe City on Jan. 7.
