Obituary: James Morris Chulufas

James Morris Chulufas passed away on Feb. 9, 2012, at Lake Isabella, California. Several months ago he set two goals for himself: He met the first, living to celebrate his 90th birthday on Feb. 2, but he could not hold on until March 21, when he and Virginia, the love of his life, would have celebrated their 70th anniversary. In addition to Virginia Chulufas, Jim is survived by his brothers Richard, Donald and Robert; by his daughter Linda Eriksen and her husband Dennis; by three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.He was born in Ottawa, Kansas, and raised in Arkansas and Missouri. Jim was very disappointed that his father had to pull him from high school during the depth of the Depression to work and help support the family. But he studied hard to self educate himself and he became a very successful chef and later an expert dry cleaner. Also a successful businessman, he owned and operated the Tahoe Lake Cleaners in Kings Beach, California, and the Donner House Restaurant in Truckee, California. His life was dedicated to his family and to serving his community through organizations like the North Lake Tahoe Rotary Club, where he was pleased to have served as their President.
