Obituary: Joseph E. Straub Sr.
Joseph E. Straub Sr. passed away at his home in Reno on November 28, 2010.
Coming off of a chicken ranch in Petaluma, California, he came to Truckee in 1945 and always considered Truckee to be his and his familyand#8217;s home. He loved Truckee.
He retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad after many years of service. He was a part of the rescue of the passengers of the Spirit of San Francisco when it became stranded on Donner Summit. He also was one of the wing operators on the Spreader that can be seen at the east end of town.
He leaves his wife Audrey Straub and his sons Monty Straub of Vallejo and Joseph E Straub Jr. of Truckee.
