Obituary: Mark Edward Vierra

Mark Vierra of Squaw Valley passed away on February 17. Born on July 19, 1957, in Alameda, California, Mark attended Marina High School in San Leandro and graduated in 1975. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1977 to 1979. Following his military service, he became a journeyman sheet-metal worker and worked on major projects in the Bay Area and Reno before moving to Squaw Valley in 1989 and buying Squaw Valley Snow Removal, which he ran until his death.

In 1996, Mark became a volunteer firefighter with Squaw Valley Fire Department and embarked on a successful career in the fire service, joining the Department as a full-time Firefighter-EMT in 2002 and promoting to Engineer in 2005.

A respected, honest and dependable businessman, avid skier and outdoorsman, courageous and capable firefighter and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mark will be missed by his family and community. Mark is survived by his mother, stepfather, his brother, two sisters, his wife Linda, daughters Tori and Kristina and grandsons Brian and Tyler.

The Kristina Vierra Benefit Fund has been established at Bank of the West to help with college expenses and#8212; those wishing to contribute should specify account number 023971325.

A memorial service for Mark Vierra will be held on March 25th at 4 p.m. at the Resort at Squaw Creek.
