Obituary: Martin Sturcke

Martin A. Marty Sturcke passed away Sunday, Oct. 19 at the Tahoe Forest Extended Stay Facility in Truckee after a lengthy illness. He was born to Teresa and Henry Sturcke in Richmond, Calif. in 1920. He grew up in Auburn, Calif. Marty was a member of the Auburn Volunteer Fire Dept. During World War II he was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe. In 1944 he met and married Mary Wilson. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in September, 2008. In 1951, Marty joined the California Highway Patrol and was assigned to Truckee. He retired from the CHP in 1977.

Marty is survived by his wife Mary, sons John of Truckee and Garry of Crescent City. He had two grandchildren, William of Lodi and Lynette of Redding, as well as four great grandchildren. At his request, there will be no services.
