Obituary: Ora ‘Bill’ Walker

Ora ‘Bill’ Walker passed away on Feb. 1, 2012, from Parkinsons. He was preceded in death by his youngest son Mark Walker. He is survived by his wife Candi; daughter Michele and her husband Mike Justice; his sons and their wives, Richard and Susan Winchester, and Dennis and Lucy Winchester; also five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Bill served in the Navy during the Korean conflict and was a member of the American Legion of Truckee. Bill worked for Standard Oil, which brought him to Truckee in 1959. He worked for the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District for more than 20 years as a mechanic and bus driver. Then he became Director of Transportation.

He joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1964 and help start the scholarship programs for both high schools, that continues today. There will be no services at the request of the family. He will be missed.
