Obituary: Patrick George Martin

Patrick George Martin of Truckee, Ca. passed away at his home on Feb. 28, 2011. Pat was born Aug. 24, 1946, in Los Angeles and grew up in Ventura. He spent a year in Portland and a year in Taos before joining the Navy Seabees in 1966.

He was stationed in Hawaii for 31/2 years. When he got out of the Navy, he headed for June Lakes and the following year ended up in Reno working at Mt. Rose, where he met his future wife, Janet Mees. They lived in South Lake Tahoe, Chico, and Durham before moving to Truckee in 1989. Pat was an accomplished builder, chemist, hydrologist, inventor, ski instructor and ski patrolman.

He also worked ski lift construction and maintenance.



He was always a scholar and had a passion for history. He never stopped learning.

He was an avid skier, mountain biker, and backpacker. He truly loved the mountains. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of Truckee, son Jed of Carson City, daughter Megan and granddaughter Stella of Sacramento.



His extended family includes his parents, Bill and Bj, his brother Mike, his five sisters Michelle, Collette, Terry, Maureen, and Mariette, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pat wished for any donations to be sent to Tahoe Forest Hospice in his name. The address is P.O. Box 759 Truckee, CA. 96160.

He also wished for all to continue to enjoy the mountains he loved so much.
