Obituary: Peter Scott Maktenieks

Peter Scott Maktenieks, andamp;#8220;Peter the Waiter,andamp;#8221; age 50, died suddenly in Tahoe City on Oct. 18, 2011.Peter was born in Palo Alto, Calif., on March 27, 1961, and over the years resided in Bonn, Germany; Huntington Beach, Calif.; Long Island, N.Y.; Malibu, Calif.; and Tahoe City.He received a BA in communications from State University of New York before moving back to California. Peter had been a seasonal resident of Alpine Meadows with his family since 1964, but made Tahoe City his permanent home in 1996.He was employed by various restaurants in the area as well as Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski resorts. Peter was known affectionately by his friends as PTW andamp;#8212; andamp;#8220;Peter the Waiter.andamp;#8221;He is survived by his parents, Leonids Maktenieks, of Alpine Meadows, and Renata Maktenieks of Reno, Nev.; also survived by siblings Anthony Leo Jr. and Tracy Jenkins; nephews Robert and Andrew; and nieces Briana and Grace, all of Reno, Nev.The Maktenieks family is grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes from so many of Peterandamp;#8217;s friends during an impromptu memorial gathering that was held at Pete andamp;#8217;Nandamp;#8217; Peterandamp;#8217;s in Tahoe City on Thursday.A private family service will be held at a later date.PTW lived, loved and died in Tahoe.
