Robert D. Jennings

Robert D. Jennings, 60, a Minden resident, died Oct. 29, 2008. Bob was born Jan. 12, 1948, in Sacramento, Calif. Bob was a Vietnam vet who earned a Purple Heart and after the war moved to Truckee in 1970.

Bob was the Hobart Hotshot foreman from 1972 to 1975, and an Alpine Meadows’ employee. Bob was a U.S. Forest Service snow ranger and on the avalanche gun crew for many years. He retired from the Forest Service in 1998 as the Toyabe NF Air Attack supervisor.



Bob was also a charter member of the Bar of America, and was known to celebrate the last day of public drinking in Truckee. Bob was known for his Yosemite Sam mustache, a quick smile and his love of steelhead fishing on the Trinity River.



A celebration of Bob’s life is being planned on the anniversary of the Alpine Meadows’ avalanche March 31, 2009.
