Obituary: Thomas Jay Ragan
Thomas Jay Ragan was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to John and Marjory Ragan.After graduating high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Tom served our country from 1960 to 1964. After his service he moved to Lake Tahoe. While working in Tahoe he met Sharon Bechdolt. Their wedding day was Dec. 19, 1970; they were married just short of 40 years. Tom was a proud and honored stepfather to Sharonandamp;#8217;s three children, Michael Edward Daniels, Matthew Carl Daniels (Susan), and Martha Ann Daniels-Schoonmaker (Dirk). Tom and Sharon had four children together, John Jay Ragan (Rachel), Luke Thomas Ragan (Jenn), Mark James andamp;#8220;Buggyandamp;#8221; Ragan (Lindsey) and Melinda Marie Ragan-Connell (Ron). Tom and Sharon were then blessed with 15 grandchildren, Kristen Nicole Daniels (19), Jessica Katelyn Daniels (17), Kylie Jane Daniels (13), James Clinton andamp;#8220;JCandamp;#8221; Schoonmaker (10), Mera Daniels Schoonmaker (8), Leah Nicole Ragan (5), Samantha Rhea Ragan (3), John Jay Ragan (1), Brett Michael Ragan (3), Bodie Robert Ragan (6 mo.), Wyatt Thomas Ragan (6 mo.), Abbi Reid Ragan (6), Thomas Cameron Ragan (3), Michaela Marie Connell (5), and Isabell Ragan Connell (3).In addition to his beloved children and cherished daughters- and sons-in-law, Tom is also survived by his brothers James Michael Ragan and Daniel Allen Ragan, sisters Patricia Anne Griffith and Margaret Mary andamp;#8220;Peggyandamp;#8221; Arend, and stepbrother Craig Preston Roberts (Lynn). Tom was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Louise Ragan, parents John Jay Ragan and Marjory Janet Bachelor, stepparents Jeanne Ragan and Dwayne Bachelor, stepson Michael Edward andamp;#8220;Little Mickeyandamp;#8221; Daniels. Tom started building piers on Lake Tahoe in 1978 then established his own company, T.J. Ragan Marine. He operated this company from 1980 until 1990, when Tom and Sharon left Tahoe for a short stint in Washington state. While in Washington they operated a small resort on Lake Cushman with their four youngest kids in Hoodsport, Wash. If you were wondering where Hoodsport is, it is halfway between Potlatch and Lilliwaup. After all the kids had graduated high school, Tom and Sharon moved back to Tahoe. It was then Tom established Pacific Built Inc. Tom was the president/RMO of Pacific Built until his passing. Tom Ragan was the true definition of honor, fairness, patience, kindness, hard work and love for family, friends and his country. He was not only the man who would give you the shirt off of his back; he would then proceed to give you a family to belong to. Generosity is an understatement when you talk about Tom. He believed only in a fair wage for a dayandamp;#8217;s work and his handshake was his bond. Tom Ragan also leaves behind a last name that will carry on for generations proudly. Thomas Ragan will be deeply missed by all, especially by his grandchildren with all their distinct personalities. He has now been reunited with his life partner in heaven.Thomas Jay Raganandamp;#8217;s service will be Sunday, July 17, 2011, at 2 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tahoe City, followed by a celebration of his life at the Tahoe City Golf Course.
