Obituary: Timothy M. Oand#8217;Connell

Tim Oand#8217;Connell, 52, of Truckee, CA died peacefully in his sleep Friday, March 16th, 2012. He was born to Marlys R. (Oberle) and Michael J. Oand#8217;Connell October 27, 1959 in Evanston Illinois and grew up in Rogers Park, a community on the north side of Chicago. He attended Eugene Field School, St. Jeromeand#8217;s Elementary, and Roger C. Sullivan High School, and started at Loyola University of Chicago. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard (USCG), attended USCG Boot Camp at Treasure Island, CA and was the and#8220;honor bootand#8221; from his class. He was assigned to the Chicago area and served on search and rescue ships on Lake Michigan. After his Coast Guard enlistment in 1989, Tim ventured to Truckee, California and founded Appletree Interiors. Tim was a skilled craftsman and worked as an independent licensed contractor in the North Tahoe area, with a specialty in flooring and custom tile, as well as general contracting, throughout the region.
Tim is survived by his mother, Marlys R. Mandelos of Reno, NV his sister, Cynthia Oand#8217;Connell-Sullivan, John E. Sullivan his brother-in-law, and his two nieces, Megan Ann and Shannon Moira Sullivan, all of Truckee, CA. He was preceded in death recently by his step-father Freddie Mandelos, his younger brother Daniel J. (Danny), and his father Michael J. Oand#8217;Connell.
Tim will be remembered by so many of his friends for his caring generosity, his willingness to help and assist anyone in need, and his humorous stories. He was respected in the community and was held in high esteem for his professionalism and workmanship. ——-
Although originally a Chicagoan and well-traveled, Tim called the Tahoe-Truckee area his home. He loved the outdoors, the serene beauty, and friendliness of the people here so much. Although lucrative opportunities were available to him elsewhere, Truckee was his home.
A visitation/wake will be held Friday, March 23rd from 5-7 PM at Truckee Tahoe Mortuary, 10126 Church St, Truckee, CA. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 24th at Assumption Catholic Church, 10930 Alder Drive, Truckee, CA starting at 11:00 AM.
