Obituary: Van Vliet, Paul Hospers

Paul Hospers Van Vliet died July 25, in Auburn from complications of pneumonia. He was 85.

Born March 7, 1918, in Pella, Iowa, he served in the Marine Corps in Marshall Islands during World War II. He had been a California resident since 1937, 20 years in Auburn.

He was retired from Caltrans. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys G. Van Vliet; sister, Mary Whinery; sons, Phillip Van Vliet and Gary Lewis; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
