Assumption parish invites Catholics to come home

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento, covering northeastern California, including Lake Tahoe, aired thousands of prime-time TV commercials last month inviting inactive Catholics to return to the Catholic Church. The ads, produced by the nonprofit organization Catholics Come Home, encouraged viewers to visit the national Catholics Come Home website http://www.catholicscomehome.org and a Northern California Catholics Come Home website http://welcomehomenorcal.com/ that the Sacramento Diocese sponsors.

As part of the Sacramento Diocese, Assumption Parish is also participating by starting its own six-week Catholics Come Home reorientation program on Thursday evenings, beginning Jan. 21, 2010, at 6 p.m., in the parish meeting center at 10116 E St., in downtown Truckee, led by Assumptionand#8217;s new priest, Father Matthew Blank. Assumption Parish invites anyone who is interested in returning to the Catholic Church or in learning more about the Catholic faith.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish was established in 1869 in Truckee, and includes a mission church, Our Lady of the Lake, in Kings Beach.
