Bluestone brings the ‘Jewels of the Sierra’ to Truckee

TRUCKEE, Calif. – One of the newest business additions to downtown brings a jewelry store back to Truckee, but not your usual jewelry store. In fact, its “taste” for unique extends to adding wine and gourmet goodies to a diverse range of jewels, art and glass. Located two doors down from Bar of America, many locals entering Bluestone will remember the old brick and the “bakery room” from the “OB’s” building. The addition of barn wood floor, Eric Jarvis fine photography and exquisite glass pieces makes a fresh and fun impression. Local artist Tom Beebe has on display wood designs in mirrors, tables and wine racks.”Our family definitely aims for a full range of fine jewelry from local to international designers,” said Marc Bigelow, one of the family owners. “Yet we know doing all levels of jewelry repairs and watch batteries is as important to the community and visitors as anything they see here. The same goldsmith and master jeweler who handles their repairs is also building engagement, anniversary rings, pendants and earrings for them. We’ve been lucky enough to build a loyal custom build and repair following from Reno through the San Francisco Bay area that trust the work we have done out of our Tahoe City store. We want to become a part of Truckee’s future.”It was a natural extension for Marc, Linda and son, Benton, to open shop in Truckee. Truckee area customers told them they would love to have them closer since there has not been a jewelry store for several years. Bluestone in Tahoe City will still be in the Cobblestone Center across from Commons Beach.”We appreciate the support we have had in our first month here and we are already seeing some familiar faces. The wine tasting and bottle sales, while new to us, fit right in with how we built Bluestone through unique quality items in a variety of areas,” Bigelow said. “This first month we have used Truckee Thursdays and the recent Airshow as a way to introduce ourselves. The wines are at a great price point and we are already seeing repeat customers for wines like our Chocolate Splash, Bliss Merlot and Heavyweight Chardonnay. Most of our selection is from wineries close to the area, like Sierra Foothills.” This June, Bluestone was recognized at JCK, the largest jewelry show in the world as one of the top 50 designer/retailers in the country. The award comes at the right time to boost the confidence of a small family business extending itself in a challenging market environment.”We realized that with the chocolates, dips, sauces, crackers and other goodies we already have we can combine them with wine, our fine photography books and whatever the customers want added to form a great value gift basket. Talking to realtors and home builders it sounds like they could be some of our first customers for quality gift baskets. The next idea is to help the local wedding market providers to reach their customers. More to come on that,” Marc added.The Bluestone family and staff are introducing alternative jewelry and new metals that are entering the market to keep abreast of what customers want. “Also, ‘repurposing’ old jewelry into new pieces is something we enjoy helping customers design. Using the family gold pieces you have to create new treasures is always a good idea,” Ben Bigelow said. “I love finding the perfect piece for someone,” said Linda Bigelow. “In a typical day I get to help a little girl receive her first jewelry piece to working on a final design selection with a couple for their engagement or anniversary rings.
