Building code workshop open and free to the public in Truckee

Special to the Sun

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Every three years the State of California adopts new building codes. These codes are referred to as Title 24, the California Code of Regulations. The 2010 California Codes will become effective Jan. 1, 2011. The new codes include the California building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing codes, the green building code, and for the first time, the California residential code. These new codes reflect changes in technology and lessons learned and will serve to meet the needs of the State of California.

Local jurisdictions have the opportunity to modify the State Codes based on local climatic, geological or topographical conditions. Chapter 15 of the Town Municipal Code amends the State Codes to meet our local needs.

Town Chief Building Official Michael Lavallee will present a workshop focusing on changes to the Municipal Code to adopt the 2010 California Codes and discuss the new mandatory California green building and residential code requirements. He will discuss major changes in all of the codes. The workshop will be held in Council Chambers at Town Hall, Thursday, Oct. 14. It is free, although a $10 donation is requested for lunch. Please RSVP to cdd@townoftruckee.com or call 530-582-7820.
