The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation is now accepting nominations for the 2009-2010 Linda Brown Fellows Awards and the Star Award. The Fellows Program is designed to recognize outstanding teachers and staff members who demonstrate originality, innovation and dedication to the teaching profession above and beyond the high standards of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD). The Star Award recognizes classified employees who positively impact the lives of the students by providing outstanding support in their positions. Linda Brown Fellows Award recipients each receive $2,000 to be used to enhance educational work within the district. In addition, both Linda Brown Fellows awards recipients and Star Award recipients receive $1,000 for their personal use.Nominations may come from parents and community members, as well as any TTUSD faculty or staff member. Self-nominations or nominations from Excellence in Education board members will not be accepted. Nomination forms, which may be found at all district schools, the district office, or online at http://www.exined.org, must be postmarked or hand delivered to the Excellence in Education office at 11071 Donner Pass Road in Truckee by Thursday, May 7, 2009. The 2009-2010 recipients will be announced in the fall.
This Saturday, April 11, EAA Chapter 1073 will try to begin their free airplane rides for children 8 through 17 and will be given a certificate naming them as Young Eagles. Members of the Experimental Aircraft Association have introduced kids to the various facets of aviation and flown over 1,500,000 kids around the world. Registration is at 8 a.m. through 8:45 a.m. and flights will begin as soon as possible weather permitting. Come out to review the airplanes being flown by local and visiting pilots. A Pancake Breakfast is also available for anyone wanting to learn more about airplanes and interested in how they can become involved in aviation. Take Highway 267 to the Truckee Airport Road and follow that to the airport terminal (follow the signs, but please watch for moving aircraft which have the right of way), turn right and the EAA building is the last building on the left. Calling all beer-loving artists! FiftyFifty Brewing Co. is excited to announce the 2009 FiftyFifty T-Shirt Design Contest. We are looking for the next great T-Shirt for the brewery, and thought what better way than to tap into our own local talented artists!How it Works: First, create your T-Shirt design. The guidelines are pretty open it can be generic FiftyFifty, one of our specific beer brands, or pretty much anything beer. Be creative!Upload your design to the Sierra Sun contest site for review.
