Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe would like to extend a huge thank you to Tanya Rose Bordner, Director of Bikram Yoga Sierra, the wonderful instructors at Bikram Yoga Truckee, and all of the Bikram practitioners who came out to support the Tuesday night Karma classes during the month of January. It was wonderful to see the support from everyone in the yoga community, and it reminded at least one of our board members how much balance the practice of Bikram brings to his life.

Bikram Yoga Sierra’s Karma class is a regular Bikram class held once a week at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in Truckee (Wednesdays in Reno). Admission is by donation ($8 minimum please), and all proceeds are donated to a different worthy local cause, including KidScape Productions during February 2010. The Bikram Yoga Truckee studio is located in the Pioneer Commerce Center at 10775 Pioneer Trail Road, Unit 105B, in Truckee. Please call (530) 582-4111 or visit http://www.BikramYogaSierra.com for more information.

As you plan for 2010 and everything the coming year has in store, take a moment to think about what you do in the Tahoe-Truckee community and see if there are ways you can become more involved. There are literally hundreds of great causes that could use your support, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe for those who want to make a big difference in the life of a local child.

We are always looking for caring adult mentors who are willing to spend an average of an hour a week with a local youth in need of a friend. We ask for a year’s commitment (with a flexible schedule), but most matches last much longer than that because both mentor and mentee get so much out of the relationship. Indeed, many matches grow into life-long friendships that can redefine both lives for the better.

If you would like more information about becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, please call our Truckee office today! We currently have more than 30 children on our North Lake Tahoe and Truckee waiting list, and we especially need mentors in the Kings Beach area. Call 587-7717 for more information.
