Born in Truckee, raised in Kings Beach, and now a freshman at the University of Nevada, Reno, new Customer Relations Specialist Nancy Paniagua is looking to hit the ground running in the Truckee office of Big Brothers Big Sisters.Paniagua steps in to fill the shoes of outgoing Customer Relations Specialist Jessica Ramirez with one big advantage andamp;#8212; she already served as a Big Sister in our program while she was still in high school last year.andamp;#8220;I knew my Little Sister already,andamp;#8221; Paniagua said about her match. andamp;#8220;We I just kind of continued to help her out with homework, crafts and fun things like that. We met once a week, for an hour each time, and since we were both in school we mostly focused on homework and getting her grades up.andamp;#8221;In her new role as Customer Relations Specialist, Paniagua, who speaks fluent Spanish and English, will serve as a vital link to the Spanish-speaking families served by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County andamp; North Lake Tahoe, and her in-depth knowledge of the Kings Beach community will foster further important ties as we expand our programs in the North Lake Tahoe region.andamp;#8220;I’m looking forward to helping kids and putting a positive role model in their life,andamp;#8221; Paniagua said of her new job. andamp;#8220;And hopefully bringing a little bit of Hispanic culture into the agency.andamp;#8221;According to Truckee Program Manager Peggy Martin, andamp;#8220;I’m excited that Nancy has come on because I’ve known her personally for 10 years from the Boys andamp; Girls Club. So I almost feel like it’s a mentoring opportunity for me. She has a passion similar to mine and I feel like I can take her under my wing and teach her what I know.andamp;#8220;I think she’s going to really open doors for us in the Kings Beach and Hispanic communities. She already knows the Kings Beach community and will be a definite resource. She will open a lot more opportunities in the Hispanic community, and hopefully improve our recruiting of mentors within the Kings Beach community.andamp;#8221;

Our outgoing Customer Relations Specialist, Jessica Ramirez, is leaving for a full-time position with Sierra Nevada Children’s Services where she serves as Family Support Specialist. We wish her the very best and thank her for her service with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County andamp; North Lake Tahoe is always looking for caring adult mentors who are willing to spend an average of an hour a week with a local youth in need of a friend. We ask for a year’s commitment (with a flexible schedule), but most matches last much longer than that because both mentor and mentee get so much out of the relationship. Indeed, many matches grow into life-long friendships that can redefine both lives for the better.If you would like more information about becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, please call our Truckee office today! We currently have more than 35 children on our North Lake Tahoe and Truckee waiting list, and we especially need mentors in the Kings Beach area. Call 587-7717 for more information. Se habla espaol.
