TAHOE/TRUCKEE – A big thank you goes out to Mike Nethersole and Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe Community Projects for donating their time, labor and materials into remodeling the kitchen at the Mt. Rose Safe House!

The Mt. Rose Safe House is a three bedroom, two bath home which is used as a refuge for women and children fleeing an abusive situation. Clients of Tahoe Women’s Services, (TWS) can go to the safe house in order to “get back on their feet” and reclaim a life free of violence. During their 60-day stay, TWS Safe House staff provides the residents with education, case management, advocacy, transportation, court accompaniment, parenting education, economic literacy, legal advocacy, etc. in order to support their transition into a better life.

Although a very welcoming and comforting home, the Safe House was built in 1938 and was in need of some updating, especially in the kitchen, which may be utilized by three families at once. CATT Community Projects was incredibly generous to offer their services to remodel the kitchen with the help of several other local companies, including Sierra Millworks, MD Construction, Pell Plumbing, Western Nevada Supply, Root of Design Electric, JE Higgins Lumber and Caseywood Lumber.

The remodel includes knocking out an existing wall and replacing it with an island to provide a more open, inviting kitchen. They are installing new cabinets, countertops, light fixtures and a new sink. In addition, they will remove the laminate floors and extend the existing hardwood floors throughout the kitchen. They are also painting the kitchen to give it an overall much-needed update. TWS wanted to update the Safe House kitchen for several years, however, due to budgeting and lack of funds, were unsuccessful.

With many helping hands, TWS’s dream of remodeling the Safe House kitchen has come true. We could not be more appreciative of this very generous donation. Please consider these companies for your next renovation or construction needs.
