TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; InnerACTIONS, a local nonprofit educational outreach project, has been invited to perform for the July 2010 National Training Institutes Conference at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., organized by the National Technical Assistance Center for Children’s Mental Health. InnerACTIONS (Adolescents Committed to Independence, Opportunity and a New Start) is produced by InnerRhythms, Inc. a California 501-(c)-3 nonprofit performing arts organization. InnerACTIONS’ purpose is to use performance mediums to positively impact our youth in the prevention of substance abuse and other at-risk behaviors.
Utilizing the power of movement, vocal and theatre arts in a critical call to ACTION, and#8220;A Message of Prevention through Inspirationand#8221; is a one-hour multimedia presentation featuring local student and professional dancers in a fusion of hip-hop dance, live music, break dancing and true stories seamlessly interwoven with pre-produced video. An integral part of the Washington D.C. Training Institute is Youth Empowerment, which aligns with InnerACTIONS’ innovative approach to youth intervention.
In May 2009, InnerACTIONS received rave reviews at their first performance for a live audience of students, parents, and community members at Truckee High School. Dozens of schools in multiple counties and districts have expressed interest in bringing this powerful yet inspirational performance to their schools. and#8220;I completely enjoyed the evening and was so impressed with the show. It was both entertaining and powerful!and#8221; writes Kim Bateman, Ph.D., Dean, Tahoe-Truckee Campus, Sierra College.
and#8220;The InnerACTIONS presentation is by far the most effective medium I have come across as a means of encouraging and supporting young people to follow their dreams/passions and make healthy choices. As a counselor in our schools and community, I am very impressed with the impact InnerACTIONS has had on our youth It has become an important part of our prevention programs and continues to grow. InnerACTIONS’ innovative style of promoting physical/emotional health, as well as finding and following your passion is very powerful Through dance and music students are exposed to critical information in a way that is relevant to and appreciated by them. InnerACTIONS is the best received presentation to inspire youth that I have ever come across. I encourage all interested community members to support their efforts!and#8221; claims Debbi Spohr, TTUSD Intervention Counselor, Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor and Family Outreach Worker.
