TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. – Tahoe Forest Health System’s 12th annual Best of Tahoe Chefs “Denim and Diamonds” fundraiser welcomes guests to the Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe, Sunday, May 22, to sport their jeans, add a bit of sparkle and prepare for a rip-roaring good time – all while raising money for Tahoe Forest Cancer Center Programs. In 2010 more than 350 guests were in attendance, and more than $160,000 was raised directly benefiting Tahoe Forest Cancer Center patient services and programs. Tahoe Forest Cancer Center in Truckee is a proud affiliate of the UC Davis Cancer Network, an organization that unites five hospital-based cancer centers for the purpose of delivering high quality cancer care in rural settings. For instance, a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy treatment will most likely need a wig to help them with the side effect of hair loss. The average cost of a wig ranges from $300 – $800. Mastectomy prostheses and compression garments also help to make coping with the loss of a breast to cancer a bit easier. Mastectomy products include breast forms and specialized bras. The average cost of a breast prosthesis is $250.
