KINGS BEACH, Calif. andamp;#8212; Anyone who has been to the Boys and Girls Club undoubtedly has seen, heard and worked with Mindy Carbajal. She is the energetic and smiling force who seems to attract attention everywhere she goes. Mindy recently became the executive director of the Club after working for six years as the program director and then as the director of operations.Mindy has been involved in youth development since 1998 as a counselor, coach, day camp director and program coordinator with various organizations. She came to Lake Tahoe from Olympia, Wash., where she was the extensions director for the Boys and Clubs of Thurston County. That particular Boys and Girls Club greatly impacted Mindy andamp;#8212; both because of its successful practices and because of the lives she touched. At the North Lake Tahoe Club, Mindy has made her mark with improved Club programs, changed scheduling, painted offices, giving speeches, helping with homework andamp;#8230; the list is endless. Her dedication to the Club and this community is unmatched, and truly what makes Mindy great. She is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure youths have nothing short of a great experience at the Club.An example of this happened years ago when a fundraising challenge was issued to the community. Mindy offered up her hair as a reward for reaching the fundraising goal. Kids, parents and community members cheered and chanted while Mindyandamp;#8217;s head was shaved, all for the Club.Spontaneity, creativity and fun are not the only things she brings to the table, however. Aside from improving programs and infusing excitement in all she does, Mindy has a business sense that has increased Club revenues, cut expenses and helped the Club on its path to long-term sustainability. The Clubandamp;#8217;s reputation is strong because of her efforts in the office and around town. She created and nurtured partnerships that have brought many Club programs to a higher level.Ben Visnyei, BGCNLT director of operations said, andamp;#8220;Mindy has a passion for Boys and Girls Clubs and shares it everywhere she goes. She is caring, creative, confidant and leads with thoughtful style. She brings an energy to our Club that has the ability to get club members, staff members and club friends andamp;#8216;fired upandamp;#8217; at the drop of a hat.andamp;#8221;John Neary, president of the board of directors added, andamp;#8220;Mindy Carbajal brings excellent experience and incredible commitment and enthusiasm to the executive directorandamp;#8217;s position.
