Former band director Shauna Gilberti opens the Tahoe Music Institute

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212; Former North Tahoe Middle School band director Shauna Gilberti recently opened a new music school in Tahoe City. The Tahoe Music Institute aims to provide excellence in music education through performance-based experiences to students of all ages and musical backgrounds. These experiences include offering private lessons, small ensemble experiences and performance classes as well as providing supplies to local music students.
Gilberti’s resume includes time as a band and choir director for seven years, three of which were spent at NTMS. She left TTUSD last spring to enhance music education in the local community in support of the public school music programs. Gilberti holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in music education from the University of Nevada, Reno, and is a well respected music educator in both California and Nevada. She was awarded the Excellence in Education Linda Brown Fellows Award in 2009, serves as an elected board member of the California Music Educator’s Association’s (CMEA) North Section and has consistently received high performance marks with her groups at CMEA and Washoe County festivals. Her experience and reputation draws students to the Tahoe Music Institute.
The Tahoe Music Institute is located in the Creative Center in Tahoe City at 2810 Lake Forest Road. The Institute is currently offering private and group lessons in woodwind, brass, percussion, voice and piano and hopes to offer lessons on stringed instruments soon. The Institute is currently registering students for lessons and fall classes: Intro to Improvisation, Percussion Ensemble and Intro to Choir.
