Free Truckee community recycling event

The Town of Truckee in partnership with Suddenlink Communications is happy to announce the 4th annual Electronic Waste Recycling event scheduled for June 19, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the back parking lot of Town Hall, 10183 Truckee Airport Road. Residents are encouraged to drop off all their old electronic equipment for free recycling. Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, cell phones, radios, telephones and fax machines are common electronic products that must be kept out of your household trash and recycled separately. All of these items plus more will be accepted during the annual collection event.

If you canand#8217;t make the event donand#8217;t worry! Electronics waste may be recycled at the Eastern Regional Landfill (ERL), free of charge throughout the year. The Eastern Regional Landfill is located on Cabin Creek Road off Highway 89 south about three miles outside of the town of Truckee. ERL is open Monday and#8211; Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. For details call Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal at 583-0148. Keep your electronic waste separate from any trash and remember recycling electronics at ERL is free.

A new addition to this yearand#8217;s Community Recycling event is the acceptance of waste tires. Funded through a grant the Town received from the California Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery residents may drop-off up to nine waste tires at the event on June 19. Tires will also be accepted free of charge at the Eastern Regional Landfill on the first and third Saturday of each month. Hauling more than nine tires per trip is prohibited without a special variance issued by the county, please only haul 9 waste tires at a time. This opportunity is limited to residents only; no commercial waste tire generators please.

Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal will also be accepting pine needles and vegetative waste from area residents June 19, 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Residents are required to unload their own vehicles. Limit of 3 yards (approximately 20 bags) per trip; no commercial landscapers. Locations include:

This event is open to all local area residents. Please be reminded the Green Bag for Green Waste curbside collection program is exclusively available to residents living within the Town of Truckee limits. Placer County and residents living outside of the Town limits are excluded from participating.
