Fun at Northstar | August activities include summer concert, National Sand#8217;mores Day, and more

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; With a calendar full of new and returning special events such as Star Sessions, the Northstar summer concert series, and outdoor activities like Tahoe Star Tours and the Northstar Mountain Run, thereand#8217;s something for all ages and abilities.

Tahoe Star Tours

Shooting stars and comets, select Fridays and Saturdays



Star guide, poet and avid astronomer Tony Berendsen will lead an exciting intergalactic and educational night under the stars select Fridays and Saturdays in August. While each tour offers a unique interactive experience, all feature a poetry reading, space quiz and laser tour of the unobstructed starry skies of the Sierras. Participants will have the opportunity to look closely at the moon and any planets that may be visible through Berendsenand#8217;s Celestron telescopes. Adult tickets are $30 and child tickets (12 and under) are $15.

String quartet to play



On Saturday, Aug. 18 the Accent String Quartet, a Reno-based string quartet featuring cellist Dr. Eileen Brownell, will make a special appearance. Guests will enjoy hot chocolate and coffee while listening to the enchanting melodies and viewing the stars above. Tickets for this special event are $65 for adults and $30 for children (18 and under).

National Sand#8217;mores Day celebration

Northstar will celebrate Americaand#8217;s favorite campfire treat, the sand#8217;more, on National Sand#8217;mores Day, Aug. 10. In honor of this tradition, complementary sand#8217;mores will be offered throughout the day to resort guests. And, in the evening, guests are invited to enjoy the free outdoor film screening of a Disney summer classic, Heavyweights (rated PG).

Lake Tahoeand#8217;s All Women Sports Camp

Women of all ages and athletic abilities are in invited to participate in Lake Tahoeand#8217;s All Women Sports Camp for a weekend of inspiration, camaraderie and fun, Aug. 10-12. With a roster of professional women athletes and instructors, 22 clinics and group activities, the all womenand#8217;s camp allows women to share knowledge and build confidence in outdoor endurance sports such as cross country, mountain biking, road cycling, triathlon, running, stand-up paddling, downhill mountain biking and rock climbing, just to name a few. Northstar Mountain Run

Big Blue Adventure will host the 5th Annual Northstar Mountain Run on Sunday, Aug. 12. The 10.2K single and double track course starts at the Village at Northstar and finishes at the top of Mt. Pluto. Racers will enjoy scenic views of Lake Tahoe, wildflowers and the Sierra while taking on the challenging, gradual climbs until they reach finish line at 8,610 feet. Interested participants can register online in advance, or at the resort the day of the race.

Star Sessions

Northstar Concert Series featuring Don Felder of The Eagles

Guests are invited to enjoy the final show of the Northstar Summer Concert Series Aug. 17, featuring Don Felder, former lead guitarist of The Eagles, in the Village at Northstar, one of the newest, most intimate live music venues in Tahoe. Felder, a member of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1998, served as a key member of The Eagles for 27 years and was the originator and co-writer of The Eaglesand#8217; biggest hit and#8220;Hotel California.and#8221; Pre-sale general admission tickets can be purchased online for $18 or the day of for $23. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m.

Village at Northstar Wine Walk

Stroll through the Village at Northstar while enjoying live music, hors d’oeuvres, and a variety of wines from the North Coast Region Aug. 28. Participating stores in the Village will offer tastings of fine wines from regions including Sonoma, Mendocino County, Anderson Valley, and many more. Pre-sale tickets are now available online for $25, day of tickets will also be available for $30. All tickets include a commemorative wine glass.

and#8220;Wheely Tuesdaysand#8221; featuring STRIDER Adventure Zone

The new STRIDER Adventure Zone is the perfect opportunity for budding young cyclists (ages 18 months to 5 years) to enjoy the challenge and thrill of riding on unique terrain with fun obstacles. Every Tuesday (through Aug. 28), noon-4 p.m., children are invited to ride their own, or test ride a STRIDER balance bike on the skating rink in the Village at Northstar. A limited number of STRIDER bikes will be available at Plaza Bikes on a first-come, first-served basis.

Retro Skate Night

Guests are invited to pull out their bell bottoms, practice their best and#8220;shoot the duck,and#8221; and groove on the rink with music from the 70s and 80s, 6-9 p.m. The DJ will host skating games throughout the evening, with winners receiving prizes. Event access is complimentary, and skate rentals are available for just $10.
