OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. andamp;#8212; Squaw Valley USA will host the ninth annual Oktoberfest celebration complete with a bratwurst toss, authentic German beer and entertainment Oct. 2, from 2 to 6 p.m.Modeled after the original Oktoberfest, a 16-day annual festival held in Munich, Germany, the Village at Squaw Valley transforms into mini Bavaria for traditional German entertainment with performances by Joe Smiell and his 20-piece Bavarian band. The Almenrauch Schuhplattler and Alpentanzer Schuhplattler Austrian Dance Troops also will entertain. Oktoberfest Games get intense as festival goers compete in stein holding, keg and barrel-rolling races. Meanwhile, the bratwurst toss will put a new spin on the game of catch as the traditional German sausages fly. Guests are encouraged to get into the spirit and wear lederhosen, dirndls and traditional Bavarian dress.The Biergarten will pour a wide selection of authentic German brews including Gordon Biersch, Spaten Premium lager, Spaten Oktoberfest, Trumer Pilsner and Franziskaner Hefeweizen. The first glass of beer is $10, which includes a 1/2-liter festival glass and one beer. Additional beer tickets will be available for $5. Proceeds from beer sales benefit the Tahoe Truckee Lacrosse Foundation. Must be 21 years or older with a valid ID to purchase beer.
