TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada held their annual Leader Daughter Dinner at the Lodge in Tahoe Donner. The dinner is to honor not only the women who volunteer as leaders, but their daughters as well. First year leaders are pinned with the Rose Pin and usually heartfelt words between mothers and daughters are shared so nary a dry eye is left in the house.

Highlights were when Senior Girl Scout, Helen Bansen, honored her mother, Cindy, and the entire service unit with a poem she wrote. Congratulations were in order when another Senior Girl Scout, Ysabel Riina, revealed she has been accepted to spend her sophomore year of high school abroad next year in Germany. Her mother, Ursula, said she knew Ysabel would be well prepared for that experience because of Girl Scouting. Any younger scout would probably say the best thing about the evening was when Cindy Bansen honored all the Girl Scouts present with individual mini s’mores.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or if your daughter is interested in finding a troop, look for GSSN at Truckee Thursdays on June 16 or e-mail truckeeleaders@googlegroups.com.
