Girls on the Run- Sierras announces tenth season

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; Girls on the Run andamp;#8211; Sierras announces registration for their tenth season in the Tahoe Truckee community. The program, which combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) fun run with healthy living education, launches its spring season the week of March 19 at nine locations in Truckee and around Lake Tahoe. andamp;#8220;Girls on the Run- Sierras is proud to offer this life-changing program for girls in our community,andamp;#8221; said Danielle Rees, executive director for Girls on the Run andamp;#8212; Sierras. andamp;#8220;To date 548 Tahoe-Truckee girls have participated in this evidence-based program that increases girls’ self-esteem, body image, and attitudes about physical activity.andamp;#8221; The 10-week after-school program instills self-esteem and values in girls through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training. Girls on the Run could not achieve these results without the collaboration of parents, schools and volunteers in the community. Girls on the Run andamp;#8211; Sierras programs are scheduled at the following locations: Truckee, Glenshire and Truckee Elementary schools; Kings Beach, Boys andamp; Girls Club; Tahoe City, Rideout Community Center and North Tahoe Middle School; Incline Village, Nev., Incline Elementary School and Lake Tahoe School and South Lake Tahoe, Bijou Community School and Tahoe Valley.Parents can learn more about Girls on the Run and sign up their daughters at http://www.girlsontherunsierras.org/register. Registration fees are $150 per girl and scholarships are available.Volunteers neededGirls on the Run andamp;#8211; Sierras is a primarily volunteer led organization. Parents, teachers, and other community members are needed to mentor the girls in the program as coaches and running buddies. Previous coaching experience is not required as GOTR provides training for all volunteers.
