and#8220;Swing, swing, out, 1,2,3and#8221; These are the steps my class learned on St. Patrickand#8217;s Day, 2010. My mom, Clarissa, came to my second grade class at Glenshire Elementary School to teach us Irish Dancing. She came dressed in her traditional dress, showed us the difference between the hard shoes and the soft shoes, and also taught us a little dance history. We learned that Irish dancing is very old and influenced the other dance styles of ballet, tap and square dancing. After that, we got to learn an Irish jig and Ceili (kay-lee) dancing. Ceili means and#8220;partyand#8221; in Gaelic, and Ceili dancing is what America turning into square dancing. At the end, we had a partner contest and my teacher, Mrs. Highfill, took lots of pictures. Everyone had lots of fun and we were very excited about what we learned. We hope that you too can join us for some Irish dancing, family fun at Innerrhythms Dance Theatre this summer and fall. Find out more information at http://www.innerrhythms.org or by calling 550-8464.
