Staff reportsAn upcoming tour of fabulous Tahoe residences will provide a unique opportunity to view fantastic homes, get some ideas for your own home, and support a great cause. The Truckee-Donner Branch of the American Association of University Women’s Annual Home Tour is set for Sunday, Aug. 8.

This year’s tour will feature five homes in the Squaw Valley and Hidden Lakes areas. To select the homes, the organization contacts architects, builders and Realtors in the area.Homes are chosen by a committee for having unique elements of style and design. For example, one home incorporates hand-painted murals by Susan Alexander, while another has won Mountain Home Living’s Home of the Year award.

Some of the builders, architects and designers will be on hand to answer questions or explain the design concepts they used.Flower arrangements from local florists will add to the décor of each home. With a goal to raise $10,000, proceeds from this event will help fund scholarships for local middle school students to attend the Science Tech Trek camp at Stanford University, for local graduating high school seniors, and for women who are reentering an educational program to complete a degree. The American Association of University Women also provides support for athletic teams, mentor programs, career days, and Women in History programs for our local schools.
