IVGID GM’s Corner: A new era of trash service for Incline Village

The Totes are coming! The Totes are coming!
That wasn't exactly what Paul Revere said, but it has been a constant refrain at our IVGID offices the past few weeks.
Waste Management began delivering new containers this past Monday. Roughly 4,000 of our curbside customers will be receiving their new containers by the end of next week.
The new and improved curbside service begins the week of October 3. As we've noted before, while your upcoming Waste Management bill is increasing for the first time in seven years, the higher price includes: The two Waste Management-provided containers (one for trash and one for recycling), weekly recycling, a longer yard waste recycling program, and the ability to take up to four truckloads of trash per year to the transfer station. For most residents, the overall cost for storing and disposing of trash will likely go down.
A few things to remember
You are welcome to start using your containers now, but weekly recycling doesn't begin until October 3.

Bear shed owners (what used to be referred to as a "Bear box") will enjoy a reduced rate, and the rebate incentive program has gone up to $300. If you'd like to switch to a bear shed, submit an application to IVGID Waste Not prior to installation and before March 31, 2017.

If you'd like a larger or smaller trash container, Waste Management will allow you to switch sizes at no charge between January 1st and April 1st, 2017 (if you haven't already made your request). You can contact Waste Management at 775-831-2971 or email them at InclineVillage@wm.com.
You can drop off your old trash can at the Transfer Station at no charge through the end of December 2016.
Waste Management is taking over the billing. Your new quarterly billing statement will be mailed by October 1, 2016. They will be offering customers the ability to sign up for autopay.
Many of the changes to our solid waste collection process will put IVGID residents in compliance with current county, state and federal requirements.
The updated services offered were determined after multiple public meetings, hundreds of interactions with community members and an intensive negotiating process with Waste Management.
I realize that for regular readers of this column, much of this information is redundant. However, we also realize that you are subject to a barrage of information every day. Not all of it from IVGID!
Therefore, we realize that we have to use as many modes of communication as possible, as frequently as possible, to keep all of you informed about what is happening in the District.
To help us better assess how we are doing, we sent out a FlashVote Survey last week regarding "Communication Methods & Preferences."
The results were quite enlightening. We had 462 responses from IVGID stakeholders. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey.
Over half of the respondents indicated that either direct email (29.4%) or the Bonanza (25.1%) was the number one source of information about IVGID. The IVGID website was a distant third at 13.4%.
However, most respondents didn't rely solely on their top choice for getting information about IVGID. Approximately half the respondents had used our website, the Bonanza and direct email to access information in the past year. In addition, nearly 40 percent had gained information from our Utility Bill inserts and the IVGID Quarterly.
These responses, along with the hundreds of comments we received in the survey, demonstrate the need to provide as many platforms as possible for providing information to our stakeholders.
In addition, the ongoing inquiries we are receiving regarding the new trash collection process, reinforces the need to send out the information in as many different means as possible and as frequently as possible as well.
