Letter to the Editor: Vote ‘yes’ on Measure U
October 21, 2014
Truckee is growing in its sophistication as a town, offering the combination of an amazing living environment, easy access to the Bay Area and international airports, nearby universities, corporate centers and more.
Our technology enablement allows global business to occur anywhere. Many of our relocating families have remote and traveling professionals, part of the medical community or ski resort industry.
Corporations like Vail Resorts, KLA, Clear Capital, our banks and of course, Tahoe Forest Health System, offers excellent employment and career opportunities. To attract and retain employees — local or relocating — a good school system offering excellent educational opportunities for our students is paramount.
Measure U will provide funds to upgrade and repair Truckee schools. Aging, leaking roofs and outdated electrical and fire alarm systems and lack of technology enablement are threatening our school's abilities to continue providing the level of education our students need to successfully compete.
As a Truckee-Tahoe Realtor, I'm contacted frequently by clients who are considering a move to Truckee or may have an upcoming job interview. One of the first questions following the cost of housing is "how are the local schools?"
In order to recruit, retain and encourage professionals in all industries to move to Truckee — and stay in Truckee – our schools need to be in good working order and provide the infrastructure needed to deploy 21st century learning.

Good schools are also a foundation for maintaining and increasing property values. Schools that offer modernized learning opportunities provide the foundation for our district to attract and retain top notch teaching and administrative talent.
