January 15, 2010
The Incline Village office of the Northern Nevada Red Cross will host a town hall meeting to discuss the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday, at SNCand#8217;s Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences
in Room 139, Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The earthquake has caused catastrophic damage and significant loss of life, with estimates that up to 3 million people may be affected. The American Red Cross has committed an initial $10 million from its International Response Fund to support the relief operation, and is releasing disaster relief supplies from its warehouse in Panama, which will be able to meet the immediate needs of 5,000 families. Red Cross disaster management specialists have been deployed and others are on standby to join the staff already on the ground.
Michael Hurick, Director of Emergency Services for the Northern Nevada Red Cross, will lead a discussion on Red Cross response efforts and Red Cross volunteers will be on hand to speak about their experiences on deployment. Attendees will also be briefed about ways to help the cause in Haiti.
The meeting will be held at SNCand#8217;s Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Room 139. For more information, contact Tanya Milelli at (775) 298-0180 or email@example.com.
