Our lifestyle, livelihoods and lives needs this bill

Those of you concerned about climate change know that a storm like the one this last weekend is not an indication that climate change is a myth.

Climate is concerned with long-term trends, and the trends are clear. The 10 hottest years on record have all happened since 1998, and the hottest nine have happened since 2005.

But today is a day to celebrate, because today the National Ski Areas Association endorsed the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763). This is great news for snow lovers everywhere.

When an organization that represents over 300 ski resorts and 400 equipment, goods and services suppliers to the ski industry gets behind a policy, congress takes note. The bipartisan Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act will put a price on carbon emissions and return the proceeds to everyone in the form of a dividend check. Putting a price on carbon is not going to solve climate change in one fell swoop, but it is the single most effective policy lever we have.

It’s also a policy that members of congress on both sides of the aisle can agree on because it relies upon the free market and does not grow the size of government, but at the same time protects the people in our community that are most economically vulnerable. And the bipartisan support for this act is important for its long-term viability.

The snow that we depend on for our lifestyle, our livelihoods and our lives needs this bill.

So when you get home from a long ski day, with a big smile on your face from all that amazing snow you enjoyed, take the time to write a letter to your member of congress asking for support the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.

And if you are a business owner or community leader, you can take it to the next level by going to the energyinnovationact.org endorse webpage and endorsing the act yourself.
