Adrian Lucas Springer was supposed to be born on Christmas, but he waited a few days and rang in the New Year as the first baby born in Truckee in 2004.

Adrian – the first born of Truckee-residents Justine Lasdin and Craig Springer – was born at 12:40 a.m. on New Year’s Day after his mom endured 26 hours of labor and a Cesarean section.

But after putting up a fight for more than a day (actually his head, at 13.5 inches in diameter, wouldn’t fit), Adrian’s mom said he has been pretty calm.

“He’s been good – a little mellow baby,” Lasdin said. “He’s spoiled with all of his gifts.”

Tahoe Forest Hospital gave Adrian a gift basket to honor him as the first baby of the New Year.

At birth, Adrian was 22 inches long and weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces. He has brown hair and green eyes.
