Mountain Bounty Farms: Farm fresh winter veggies and citrus available in Truckee Tahoe

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Mountain Bounty Farm, a local 10-acre family farm, just celebrated their 13th season of farming in Nevada City, Calif.
Mountain Bounty Farm is the oldest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in Nevada County. A CSA farm is a method of direct connection between people and their food. Farm members invest in the farm at the beginning of the season and their farmers provide them with fresh and diverse produce straight from our fields every week.
The summer CSA season is drawing to a close at Mountain Bounty Farm and#8212; awash in winter squash, vibrant greens, and an array of peppers. However, itand#8217;s just the beginning of their winter season and it is time to sign-up for Winter Shares.
Mountain Bounty is accepting sign-ups for the 2010-11 Winter Season. Winter Vegetable and Citrus Shares are available. They offer several pick-up sites in the Truckee/Tahoe area, including their new site in Kings Beach, with deliveries from Nov. 24-May 18.
Most folks think of fresh local vegetables as a summertime luxury, however Mountain Bounty is able to offer their members fresh, year-round produce. and#8220;We partner with our long-time friends at certified organic Riverdog Farm to help supply the Winter Veggie Shares,and#8221; said CSA Manager Jen Ellermeyer. and#8220;They have a milder growing season in the winter so theyand#8217;re able to offer a great variety of fresh, organic veggies.”
New this 2010-11 winter season, the Citrus Share will be assembled from several local, organic farms to ensure the best quality and a diverse array of citrus as well as other winter fruit, including kiwis, apples and pears. and#8220;We are excited to offer a new and improved Citrus Share which will include a variety of delicious fruits,and#8221; said Ellermeyer.

Over the course of the winter season, the amount and variety of produce varies, but on average, members receive enough veggie produce to fill a large grocery bag full of their favorite staple veggies, plus a healthy portion of the exotic and unusual. The Citrus Share will be approximately 10 pounds per week.
