My Turn: Hospital measures itself against the best
October 1, 2007
On behalf of the board of directors of the Tahoe Forest Hospital District, I extend heartfelt thanks to you, my neighbors, for approving Measure C.
Your “yes” votes were a reaffirmation of the spirit of this community. Despite all of the challenges and all of the changes, this community still cares and supports health care, education and public safety.
I thank everyone who thoughtfully considered the issues and cast their ballot. To those who voted yes, I am honored and humbled by the trust you have demonstrated. To those who voted no, we will work hard to earn your trust. We will remember every day that it is your money, entrusted to us to spend wisely and efficiently on your behalf.
This campaign provided us with invaluable opportunities to talk with the community. It was exciting to have the community focus on health care. Some of the things said weren’t easy to hear, but we were listening. We are already working on the issues raised and want to find ways to continue the dialog. We need to hear your point of view.
Honestly, we were a bit surprised that everyone didn’t know that the Tahoe Forest Hospital is owned by the people of Truckee and North Lake Tahoe. It’s our job to eliminate that confusion and provide regular information about your hospital.
We know that many of you received phone calls from us and some received many phone calls. I apologize if we were intrusive. We were tenacious in trying to talk with you about Measure C. We will direct that same tenacity toward safeguarding the assets that you have entrusted to us.
