My Turn: Second home in Tahoe? Time to give back
December 31, 2008
Lake Tahoe is our second home and we consider ourselves extremely fortunate to be able to spend time in this beautiful place. In the 20-plus years my family has been coming to our cabin in the mountains, we have developed a deep love of Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the Truckee River.
We have also developed great admiration and appreciation for the year-round community of people who work in the local businesses, fight the fires, protect the environment, care for the sick and aged, teach in the schools, and create the art and music that help make this area so special.
We think it is important to give back to this community that enriches our lives in so many ways.
Over the years, we have dedicated a portion of our philanthropic giving to causes in the Lake Tahoe basin. When we wanted to increase our support for organizations in this area, it was an easy choice for us to invest in the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation. TTFC works with nonprofit groups throughout the area to identify needs. They help us learn more about issues facing the community and identify projects that interest us. And we are confident that our investment is in good hands.
There are so many causes, and their needs will be even greater in this time of economic downturn. All of us ” including part-time residents ” benefit from their activities. We hope you will join us in contributing to the ongoing vitality of the spectacular area we call our second home.
If there is a specific group that has sparked your passion or touched your life, please contribute to them. If you want to give to the community generally or need help in identifying specific needs, make a gift to the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation. In either case, you will feel better each time you return.
