North Lake Tahoe Historical Society presents: Frankie and Sammy, Sinatra, the mob and Cal-Neva: Rumors, Facts and Fictions

Special to the Sun

Submitted to aedgett@sierrasun.comFrank Sinatra's illustrious past is the topic of June 30 presentation at Gatekeeper's Museum in Tahoe City.

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212;-Rumors of Frank Sinatra’s underworld connections and powerful friends abound. Perhaps no other phase of his life is as infused with innuendoes as his time as part-owner of the Cal Neva Lodge in Crystal Bay, Nev. Sinatra’s posse at the time included all the folks everyone wanted to meet: the Rat Pack, Marilyn Monroe, the Kennedys. They all passed through the Cal Neva.

Scott Lankford, author of the recently released and#8220;Tahoe Beneath the Surface,and#8221; has taken an interest in Sinatra’s Cal Neva days and the national and international events that swirled around the cast of characters. On Thursday, June 30, 6:30 p.m., Lankford will share his findings and fables at the Gatekeeper’s Museum, Tahoe City, at Fanny Bridge. The event is free for North Lake Tahoe Historical Society members; the suggested donation for non-members is $10. Proceeds benefit NLTHS educational and interpretive programs.

Joining Lankford will be the former Nevada State Archivist Guy Rocha, author of several historical books and myth-busting history columns in the Reno Gazette-Journal and other periodicals. In addition, Rocha has produced and directed four historical documentaries and has hosted multiple radio shows focusing on historic topics. He is also the recipient of multiple merit awards and was appointed to the Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress in both 2005 and 2007 by U.S. Senator Harry Reid. Rocha is knowledgeable about the Cal Neva days and will share the fruits of his own investigative work.

The evening promises to be lively and informative and anyone who has ever been intrigued by the Cal Neva or the Sinatra mystiques should attend!

Copies of Lankford’s book and#8220;Tahoe Beneath the Surfaceand#8221; will be available for sale and the author will be signing copies.
