Note from the Superintendent: Recapping the best year ever at TTUSD
June 14, 2016
On Wednesday, June 8, we hosted a brief Groundbreaking Ceremony to kickoff our Measure E projects. The first phase of Tahoe Lake Elementary's facility upgrade project will begin this summer.
Two weeks ago, at the TTUSD Board of Education meeting, we recognized and honored our 2016 retirees. Believe it or not, combined, these 18 individuals have 419 years of service to our district and our scholars.
We are so appreciative of all they have done for all these years! We also recognized our winter and spring scholar-athletes for their athletic accomplishments and academic excellence.
We recently announced our 2016 Teachers of the Year and 2016 Classified Employees of the Year. Congratulations to Kim Warren, Middle School Teacher of the Year, and Laura Hartung, High School Teacher of the Year.
Congratulations also go out to Dorothy Gadsby, Teresa Ketron, Clem Sarabia, Dani Saraceno, Chris White, and Jorge Abac, who were named our 2016 Classified Employees of the Year.
Jorge Abec, our Transportation Employee of the Year, was also honored with the Placer County Transportation Employee of the Year award. These outstanding teachers and staff members were recognized by our Board of Education and at the Placer County Employees of the Year Awards Reception in Roseville.

They will also be recognized at our Welcome Back Convocation Event in August. These dedicated employees who truly make a difference in our school district.
Another well-deserved congratulations goes out to one of our amazing bus drivers, Derek Bosserman, who represented Tahoe Truckee at the "Road-eo" State Championships and earned first place in the Elite Division.
Derek is the overall state champion and will be flying to Greensboro, North Carolina on July 17 to compete in the National School Transportation Association's 46th Annual School Bus Driver International Safety Competition! Good luck Derek. Thanks for earning the state title for TTUSD!
While our regular school year is ending this week, we are gearing up for our summer programs — K Camp, Summer Scholars, and STEAM Academy.
K Camp and Summer Scholars will be underway July 11 – August 5, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Kings Beach Elementary and Truckee Elementary.
The intent of K Camp is to set up our young scholars for success in elementary school. Open to all incoming Transitional Kindergartners and Kindergartners, students at K Camp get a firsthand view of what kindergarten will be like which builds their enthusiasm and provides a smooth transition into elementary school.
The Summer Scholars program is for incoming first through fifth-grade students who need additional literacy support. It is offered by teacher invitation based on academic need.
Also, we have added a new Summer STEAM Academy that provides an exciting new hands-on academy experience for incoming sixth through eighth-grade students. Our partner program Aim High will be at Kings Beach Elementary for incoming sixth through ninth-grade students.
In closing, I would like to thank everyone for one of the "best year ever" in TTUSD! I would also like to congratulate our graduating seniors. I am very proud of their hard work, accomplishments and community service hours they've given back to the community.
This is a very exciting time for them, and I wish each and every one of them success and happiness in the new opportunities that lie ahead. I encourage our scholars to be responsible in their celebrations and to make this a sober end of the school year. We want all of our graduates and continuing students to be with us in the future!
Enjoy your summer!
